TOPIC:  Moving out – Renting, Buying, selecting roommates

AUDIENCE:  9-12th grade

TITLE:  Your first place


This unit was created for a class titled, Life After High School, it was designed to introduce concepts of housing, roommate selection, the cost of living, rental laws and renting vs home owning.  Roommate selection is highlighted with the intention of addressing topics of compatibility, finances and general expectations.


Students will recognize compatibility considerations for selecting a roommate

Students will recognize how location affects the cost of living in certain areas

Students will be able to differentiate the benefits of renting vs buying

Students will recognize tenant responsibilities and rights

Students will recognize landlord responsibilities

Students will be able to recognize lease/rental agreement terms and conditions
